TA3G (ERTi-3) Commercially Pure Titanium Welding Wire

TA3G is a Chinese grade of commercially pure titanium in welding-wire form, corresponding to AWS A5.16 ERTi-3 / ASTM Grade 3 / UNS R50550. It shares the composition and properties of TA3 but is supplied as straight length or coil wire for TIG/MIG welding and fastener manufacture, offering higher strength than ERTi-1 / ERTi-2 while retaining good ductility, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility.

Overview

  • Material: TA3G — CP titanium welding wire / fastener stock
  • International equivalent: AWS A5.16 ERTi-3 / ASTM Gr.3 / UNS R50550
  • Typical forms: straight wire and coiled wire (for TIG/MIG); bar and coil for fasteners

Key Features

  • Low density with relatively high strength;
  • Good plasticity and formability;
  • Good corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments;
  • Good biocompatibility;
  • Good thermal stability at moderate temperature.

Fabrication & Heat Treatment

  • Hot working: forged, extruded or rolled at 800–900 °C in a neutral or slightly oxidising atmosphere.
  • Cold working: cold drawn and rolled; intermediate annealing is required at high cold-reduction levels.
  • Welding: typically TIG welding; clean the workpiece thoroughly before welding and maintain a full inert-gas shield.
  • Annealing: 670–720 °C for 0.5–2 h.
  • Stress-relief annealing: 530–550 °C for 0.5–1 h, or 470–490 °C for 2–4 h.

Typical Applications

  • Aerospace: aircraft structural parts and engine components;
  • Chemical industry: reactors, piping and columns (corrosion-resistant equipment);
  • Biomedical: orthopaedic implants and dental instruments;
  • Marine engineering: corrosion-resistant components for vessels and offshore platforms;
  • Welding consumable: filler wire (ERTi-3) for higher-strength CP titanium fabrication.
